Nothing says "Eating" like Christmas, New Years and Football

It's that time of year when food becomes the centerpiece of everything I do.  There's an endless assortment of sweets, appetizers, finger foods, main courses at every function I attend.  Even though I tell myself before I attend an event that, "I will not eat too much", it doesn't seem to work.

My rationale changes entirely once I get there and see the spread. I have to eat something or I will offend the hosts.  Once I start, I can't seem to stop.  I eat until I'm full, but I always seem to have room for one more chip with dip, one more piece of fudge, or one more finger sandwich.

Then, New Years Day rolls around, and I start making resolutions about losing the weight I put on.  But wait! I can's start a diet until after all the bowl games are complete. So I blow off this resolution until at least after the Superbowl.

Then I realized I was misinterpretting Scripture where the Apostle Paul said, "...but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage..." (1 Cor. 9:27).  He was not talking about Journey's End, Chinese Buffet, John's Country Buffet, family gatherings, or something similar.  He was talking about discipline.

So before I really get on a roll on this Christmas Eve, I'm plan to practice a little more discipline and a little less buffet.
